We are seeing severe forms of COVID-19 with more deaths in Uganda – Minister

The minister in charge of Primary Health Care in Uganda has expressed worries over cases of severe forms of COVID-19 in Uganda.

The Minister of State in charge of Primary Health Care in Uganda, Dr. Joyce Modiku Kaducu, has expressed worries over severe forms of COVID-19 with more deaths in Uganda.

In a thread the Ministry posted on their official Twitter handle, Dr Kaducu noted with concern the increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country. According to her, the average number diagnosed weekly is 1900 cases, emerging from 27 districts.

Kampala continues to account for one third of all cases nationally.

West Nile, Elgon, North sub-region remains the main transmission hotspots.

Only 9 districts were yet to report any cases, Dr. Kaducu noted.

The Minister expressed worry over increasing progression to severe forms of the disease and its attendant consequences on the health system.

She noted:

“This increasing trend of infections, progression to severe forms of the disease and increased fatalities is worrisome and is severely stretching the health systems.”

She enjoined the people to adhere to strict COVID-19 prevention protocols as only then could the spread of the disease be brought under control.
