Uganda Confirms Readiness To Host The First World Health Summit To Be Held In Africa

Uganda is ready to host the Regional World Health Summit in Kampala from 27-28 April 2020. But what are some of the central topics to look out for at the Summit?

Uganda will be the host of the 2020 Regional World Health Summit, the first of its kind that will hold on the continent of Africa.

The Summit is scheduled to hold from April 27-28, 2020. The confirmation was disclosed by the Ugandan Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng on her verified Twitter handle.

The minister disclosed this after meeting with the President of the World Health Summit, Prof. Dr. Detlev Ganten and his delegation in Kampala, Uganda.

She said:

“This morning, I hosted the President of @WorldHealthSmt, Prof. Dr. Detlev Ganten along with his delegation ahead of the #WorldHealthSummit from 27-28 April 2020 at @spekeresort.
Uganda is proud to be the host and pledge our full commitment and preparedness to host the summit.”

The World Health Summit is world’s foremost strategic forum for global health. The Regional Summit taking place in Uganda focuses on topics that are already of interest to Africa on her journey towards achieving UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.

Some of the topics during the Summit include:

  • The health of African Youth;
  • Advancing Technology for Health in Africa;
  • Infectious Diseases and Global Health Security;
  • Stemming the Tide of Non-Communicable Diseases in Low- and Middle-Income Countries;
  • Inter-Sectoral Action for Health.

Yearly the World Health Submit holds in Berlin, Germany. For this year, the Summit will hold from October 25-27, 2020. However, a regional meeting is usually held prior to the main Summit in Berlin, Germany. That is what will take place in Kampala, Uganda.

The Regional Meeting Partnership Information flyer says about the World Health Summit:

“The World Heath Summit community is a fast-growing network of 25,000+ opinion leaders and health protagonists from over 120 countries and 9,500 organizations. At World Health Summit Regional Meetings, local and regional topics come to the forefront. The Regional Meeting 2020 in Kampala Uganda, will be the first in Africa.”

We wish Uganda a successful hosting of the event.
