The Ugandan National Teachers Union (UNATU) has tasked the government to fumigate schools used as isolation centres. This is in fulfillment government’s commitment to control COVID19, preparatory the re-opening of schools.
The Union also demanded the provision of disinfectants and water to all schools, and also to appoint COVID-19 committees for schools.
“We also need to put in place temperature scanners which have to be used daily to check on the learners and the teachers”, said Deputy Secretary UNATU, Phillip Duluga Buni.
The Union in particular would like schools that had been used for isolating COVID-19 patients to be fumigated and demand that the government should ensure that each school has a dedicated health worker who will be responsible for any eventuality.
He added that schools and other educational institutions be listed as beneficiaries of the COVID-19 relief package.
