The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was invited to intervene in the matter following the discovery, Daily Nation Kenya had reported
It is being alleged that some unscrupulous staff in the ministry of health sell donated blood outside of Kenya, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe noted.
No further details were supplied by the Health Cabinet Secretary about the shady deal.
Daily Nation quoted the Health Cabinet Secretary as saying that investigations were ongoing and arrests were expected to be made.
“We have asked the DCI to intervene and investigate sale of blood outside the borders of this country. Investigation is ongoing and we expect arrests will be made,” he said
The Kenya National Blood Transfusion Services (KNBTS), which is responsible for blood transfusion activities in Kenya, is under the supervision of the ministry of health.
KNBTS was funded for the past 15 years, until last year, by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
