The World Health Organization has certified that there is no more confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Egypt.
This follows the declaration by the UN Health Agency the case that was earlier confirmed to be positive was now negative as the latest test showed that the patient was no longer carrying the virus.
It will be recalled that it was widely reported in the media that a case of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Africa, precisely Egypt just last week.
Then, the confirmation of the presence of the disease was announced by the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The case was said to be a foreigner whose identity was not disclosed further.
However, WHO announced Wednesday that the man was now negative and on his way to recovery.
The leading international news outlet, Reuters quoted WHO spokeswoman Inas Hamam as saying that the patient would remain in quarantine until the expiration of the 14-day period.
“He will remain in quarantine until the full 14-day period is over and will be undergoing further required tests to ensure he was fully recovered.”
Till date, the case is the only known instance of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 in Africa.
