COVID-19 Patient Who Escaped from Imo Arrested While Selling Used Clothes in Ondo Market

A patient diagnosed with COVID-19, who escaped from Imo state, has been arrested at a popular market in Akure, Ondo state while selling used clothes.

A patient diagnosed with COVID-19 in Imo State, South-East Nigeria, has been arrested while selling used clothes, popularly referred to as ‘okrika’, in the largest market in Akure, the Ondo State capital, South-West Nigeria.

Confirming the incident, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, said that the woman had been on the radar of Ondo and Imo states after her escape.

She was tracked to the popular Oja-Oba market, at Olukayode area in Akure, where she was selling used clothes.

Dr. Adegbenro noted that the surveillance team in the stae had already commenced contact tracing of family members and friends and advised that anyone who had transacted business with her should come forward for testing.

According to the commissioner, with the arrest of the COVID-19 patient who escaped from Imo state, the total number of COVID-19 in Ondo state turned 41.
